What is Glögg?
  • In Scandinavia, Glögg is a popular spiced mulled wine during the Christmas period.
  • It is usually made with red wine, almonds, raisins, orange peels, and spices.
What is its origin?
The origin of Glögg is said to date back to the 16th century when it was called "hypocras" and was mainly consumed by messengers to warm up when traveling on horseback in very cold weather. It was believed to have therapeutic virtues, hence its name recalling Hippocrates, considered the "father of medicine."

It was in the early 19th century that it was given the name "Glögg," meaning "to shine" and "heat" in Swedish, due to its ability to make the face of the person consuming it glow and flush.

Box of 20 muslin sachets.
